We provide structured GCSE teaching in English, Maths and Science, alongside homework, feedback and study support. Parents remain responsible for the overall home-education arrangement and for organising examination entries.
The six hours are the taught part of the programme, not the student’s entire weekly education. We set homework and independent learning between lessons. The right overall workload will depend on the learner’s needs but will roughly represent a 9-12hrs weekly commitment.
Many home-educated students begin with gaps, uneven confidence or experience of different curricula. The initial consultation helps identify the student’s current position, priorities and likely support needs. Teaching can then focus on securing foundations while the learner continues progressing through the GCSE specification/ National Curriculum.
There is considerable overlap between GCSE specifications, although wording, topic order and assessment requirements can differ. We recommend confirming the intended exam board before the final examination year so that teaching, revision resources and mock-paper practice can be aligned appropriately.
Structure should be introduced in manageable stages rather than recreating a full school day immediately. A consistent timetable, clear expectations, predictable lesson routines and achievable independent tasks can help learning feel less overwhelming. The consultation allows families to discuss the learner's circumstances and whether the programme appears suitable; tuition should not be presented as a replacement for medical or therapeutic support.
This depends on the learner's individual needs, ability to engage online and the level of support required. The consultation should be used to explore suitability, adjustments and whether group or one-to-one provision would be more appropriate. Parents considering elective home education for a child attending a special school need local-authority consent before removal from the school roll.

Elective home education is chosen and organised by parents, who generally take responsibility for arranging and funding the education. EOTAS is different: it is special educational provision arranged by a local authority outside a school or college where that is considered appropriate through an EHCP. EOTAS funding is not automatic and depends on the child's assessed needs and agreed provision.
